Description

Allah'ro dorey bhaiyain mor forane (My soul fears Allah, dear brothers) is a Shez song, performed in the Rohingya camps for the RCMC by Rohingya musician Liakat Ali.

In Rohingya music culture, Shez songs are one kind of religious song that are primarily sung in Urdu. There are Rohingya versions of shez songs too, often referred as Sher. The themes are about remembrance of God, stories of prophets, and other subjects related to Islamic belief. No taal-bajna (music) is added in the performances. Given that most Shez songs are in Urdu, educated Rohingya people sing them mostly. Madrassa(religious school) students are seen singing Shez at waz mahfil(islamic forum), jolsa(islamic conference), and other religious events. Sometimes they inspire people to give money in charity or give donations to build or repair mosques. Shez can easily gather people and helps fundraising for religious causes talking about rewards of such charity. Sometimes during waz mahfil(Islamic forums), people get tired of listening to speeches. Shez songs give them a break removing drowsiness by lifting the mood. They also give directional lessons about how to lead life according to Islamic ways. Shez inspires good deeds and avoidance of bad deeds.
